Germanium

We no longer offer polished germanium windows, unpolished germanium window and lens blanks.  Evaporation grade germanium (used in optical thin film coatings such as interference filters and AR coatings) is our only current Ge product.

Evaporation grade Ge

Our evaporation grade Ge is in a form especially convenient for use in vacuum chamber crucibles. The form is individually cast mini-ingots in oval form, each weighing 7 to 9 grams. These are small enough to make filling the evaporation source simple and easy, while large enough to make the individual ingots easy to handle.  Since the user does not have to break up a larger ingot to produce pieces that fit the user's source, there is no risk of material contamination due to the process by which the larger ingot is broken or cut.  Charges of material can be more uniform in total weight and more evenly and reproducibly loaded from run to run.

Purity is 99.999+%. Certificates of Purity are supplied. Standard packaging is in 1 kilogram bottles. Typical analysis: B 2ppm; Fe 1ppm; Cu 0.5 ppm; Ca 0.3ppm; Mg <0.1 ppm.  100 gram samples will be supplied free of charge to qualified potential customers.
