Thermal SourcesMiniature, CW 1100K and 1275K IR blackbody sourcesOur standard wirewound filament sources have an emissivity of ~0.8 and are available in 4-watt, 9-watt, and 25-watt versions. The coil is wound on an alumina ceramic cylinder. Operation in a controlled or sealed atmosphere is not required. The 1100K 9-watt version is also available in a mechanically identical 1275K version drawing about 25 watts. The only drawback of the higher temperature device is that the coil material require to survive the higher temperature takes longer to oxidize which means that the emissivity will change slightly over the first few weeks of constant use (rather than over only days in the lower temperature types).
The following resources provide additional information on the infrared sources.
Electrically modulated IR sourcesWe are a distributor of electrically modulated IR sources in TO-5 and TO-8 packages. In general, these devices are useful with pyroelectric and thermopile detectors optimized at frequencies < 10 Hz.
Gas analysis is the usual application of these devices.
Mechanically modulated IR sources We also offer hybridized versions of our CW IR sources with mechanical modulation (choppers) from <1 Hz to >1000 Hz. We also offer hybridized versions of our optical shutters with IR sources.
